1. IC Design and Manufacturing Equipment Master Program
IC design and manufacturing equipment is one of the most important industries in Taiwan. It is well known that the most internationally competitive industry at present in Taiwan is IC design and semiconductor manufacturing, home to world-class technology companies such as Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and MediaTek Inc. In recent years, the rapid advancement of the AI industry has led to an increasingly strong demand for hardware, thereby intensifying the need for high-end professionals. Huafan University has a foundation of over 20 years in the field of IC design and semiconductors, with a current focus on nurturing research talent in IC design. The university possesses VLSI laboratory for cultivating analog IC talent and digital circuit design laboratory for fostering digital IC talent. Whether analog or digital IC, there is an opportunity for students to send designed circuits to semiconductor factories in Taiwan for actual IC chip production, and validate the performance of the design circuit.

Employment in the future
Taiwan's IC design industry, encompassing upstream, midstream, and downstream sectors, is highly integrated with numerous internationally renowned companies, making it one of the most crucial technology sectors. The demand for talent in Taiwan's IC design industry exceeds the number of university graduates in this field every year, making graduates in this profession highly sought after in the job market. Our university has also established industry-academia collaboration agreements with several technology companies in IC design, providing students with internship opportunities during their studies and allowing them to understand industry demands before graduation.
2. UAV and AI Master Program
One of Taiwan’s future key industries booming is drone technology which started drawing public attention several years ago. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) are a cross-system integration technology that integrates control, navigation, communication, aerodynamics, GPS positioning, and high-energy-density batteries. The relative usage of drones today keeps booming more than ever, and their application levels are extensive, ranging from environmental investigation, national defense, fire and disaster relief, occupational safety, aerial photography, green energy industry, and so on.
On the other hand, the technology and application of artificial intelligence (AI) are increasingly vital in contemporary scientific and technological domains. Across numerous industries, AI has become indispensable, offering crucial assistance. AI encompasses a broad spectrum of technologies, including the widely discussed ChatGPT, Deep Learning, Machine Learning, and more.
Due to the broad applications of drones and AI, the master's program will focus on drones and combine them with AI technology. Students will acquire knowledge in both significant fields, leveraging the characteristics of both to expand their application scope. Therefore, the education goal of this course is mainly to help students build up in-depth knowledge of UAV applications and AI technologies
Through this UAV and AI program, we will train international students to study drone professional technology, data analysis and processing, and AI technologies.
We have signed cooperation agreements with UAV or AI related industry companies in Taiwan, which can possibly provide internship opportunities for students.
Courses
- Data Mining and Machine Learning in UAV
- Optimal and Adaptive Control in UAV
- Photography and Video Processing in UAV
- Advance Computer-Aid Mechanism Analysis
- Application of Image Recognition
- Practice of Human-Machine Interfacing Supervision System
- R and Data Analysis

Employment in the future
Through this program, we will train the international students to study professional UAV technology, data analysis and AI. Taiwan has always prided itself on its computer and AI industries, boasting abundant industrial resources and ranking among the industries with the highest demand for talent. Graduates specializing in AI and related information fields can easily find suitable jobs in Taiwan, with comparatively high salaries. On the other hand, Taiwan's UAV industry is flourishing, combining the country's traditional mechanical and electrical industries, making it another field urgently in need of skilled professionals. In addition, the school has successfully passed the assessment of the Civil Aviation Administration in early 2022 and has become the national official examination field for issuing national UAV licenses.
